The Leeds Stars are a dedicated squad promoting inclusivity in swimming for athletes with intellectual and physical disabilities, fostering pride in every stroke. The Leeds Stars Squad first began when Alan Miller (swimming coach) saw a young swimmer experience unfair treatment by another Swimming Club he couldn't just sit by and watch.
Between himself and Samantha Webb - Aquatics & Junior Activities Manager of Active Leeds, they created an inclusive Disability Squad and the rest is history. "Almost a decade later the squad is going from strength to strength" says Lucy, the head coach and the daughter of Alan Miller. "Everyone is the same but some of us might look at the world a bit differently. Some of our athletes have been discriminated against and told they're not good enough - we're that helping hand to say you are good enough."
The Leeds Stars coaching team, has helped the athletes reach medal-winning success at Gala's across the country.
